“Panther” takes its cue from Rainer Maria Rilke’s Der Panther, drawing on the poem’s sense of confinement and inwardness. Rather than illustrating the text, the painting builds an atmosphere of restrained movement: veiled layers that hint at a world beyond reach, vertical forms that interrupt or contain space, and warmer tones that surface through the darker passages like traces of an inner pulse.
The composition shifts between presence and obstruction, suggesting both the animal’s physical limits and the vivid inner life that persists beneath them. The circular form introduces a quiet rhythm — a sense of repetition or return — yet it leaves the nature of that motion open to interpretation. “Panther” becomes less a depiction of captivity than an evocation of its psychological landscape.
