Surface Tension marked the first exhibition of The Surface Collective, a group formed by Greg Bryce, J. Kesín, and Michael Schmeja. The exhibition brought together three abstract painting practices united by an interest in surface, rhythm, repetition, and layered mark-making.
Presented at Bloom Gallery, the works explored how visual rhythm emerges through pattern, variation, and material process — from gestural movement to structured repetition — revealing different approaches to abstraction within a shared conceptual framework.
