About the work:
From the Ashes layers fragments drawn from historical images of Gaza City, weaving past ruptures into a single, compressed field of memory. Minarets, fires, and silhouetted figures appear like residues of different moments, each pushing up through successive veils of colour and gesture.
Geometric marks reminiscent of targeting grids cut across the composition, interrupting the softer tonal passages and underscoring the instability of the scene. Among these elements, a subtle flash of pink introduces another, quieter tension — a nod to marginalised lives whose struggles often remain unseen within wider conflict.
Rather than depicting a single event, the painting functions as an accumulation: a city repeatedly altered, a history repeatedly overwritten. It holds both the weight of destruction and the fragile persistence of those who continue to rise “from the ashes.”
